Playing Doubles

Doubles is always fun, & it's a good way to learn a course you're unfamiliar with.
In most doubles situations, a less experienced player is match with a more developed player. This makes teams more fair and allows for skill development for newer players.
Some people are unfamiliar with the accepted procedures for doubles. There are many variations of doubles play. What I will lay out for you here is the standard Best Shot doubles.
Typically, one team member tees off first, followed by his/her partner, and then the partner tees off first on the following hole, thereby alternating driving order from hole to hole. After all teams have completed their drives, each team's best lie is chosen. As in regular play, the farthest team away throws first. Which ever partner's lie is chosen to be used, the other partner throws first; both players making a throw from the marked lie. Best shot is then determined again until the team "holes-out."
There are a few penalties you should be aware of (in addition to the regular singles rules.) Most people will give you a couple of warnings before enforcing a penalty.
Picking up another team member's disc before the best lie is determined constitutes a 1 stroke penalty for your team.
If you pick up one of your team's discs, regardless of better or worse, the other lie must be used.
Picking up your team's marker before your partner has thrown.
There is no penalty for going out of turn within your team. It just helps game "flow" if you stick with the order.
Hopefully you find this information useful. A full list of rules can also be found @ http://www.pdga.com/rules/rules-for-doubles
