My Disc Golf History

Rate this Entry
I first discovered the game of disc golf when I was in the seventh or eigth grade, '02 or 03', when I stumbled upon some little plastic discs in a friend's closet. I asked about them and he responded by questioning my observational skills. The middle school we went to had a disc course, and we were only a few blocks away so instead of tell me, he showed me. I always wondered what those metal baskets with chains and whatnot were doing just standing in the middle of a field, or tucked in with some trees. I found out that day, but even though I outdrove him with my first throw it wasn't until high school that I became a regular "frolfer".
I was a sophmore. My friends and I had just started smoking weed on a regular basis, we were getting our liscenses and freedom, along with all of that came frolfing. In Chippewa Falls, WI literally the only thing to do is get messed up and throw discs. Day trips to Tower Ridge Disc Golf Course, Wakanda in Menomonie. Hell, senior year some buddies and I took a couple of camping trips to Marshfield, WI, more specifically, Wood County Park. All we did was drink and throw discs. That all lasted for about six years. Some bumpy things happened and then the summer of '09. I practically lived, almost actually lived, at Mt. Simon Park in Eau Claire, WI. Disc golf, volleyball, drugs, drunks, parties, cool and dumb people alike, that was the place to be in E.C. Over the summer my game jumped by leaps and bounds. A lot of great advice and competition from a lot of great people. Connections and better ideas of how to approach the game as a whole that I will hold on to forever. I threw seven aces, five of which were skips from around three hundred feet, unfortunately all of which were at Simon. I lack the proper funding to compete on the level that I know I could compete at, plus consistency is still a little lacking. I wish I could afford practice pins and a lot of discs. I do even have a liscense. I've spent years digging myself underground, I think disc golf is my most realistic ladder out. That's it for now, see y'all on the course, somewhere, sometime.
